Yak wool and accessories

All of our wool is 100% natural Yak wool sourced from Ladakh in Northern India, a mountainous area in the Himalayas.

Yak wool is known for its excellent temperature-regulating properties, it has similar soft and light feel as cashmere, and is extremely comfortable to wear against the skin.

Yak wool is believed to be hypoallergenic making it perfect for clothing for smaller babies. This is because yak wool has no lanolin (unlike sheep wool) and lanolin tends to be the reason why some experience wool as scratchy or irritating.

Yak wool has been used by nomads in the Trans-Himalayan region for over a thousand years. Yak wool is considered a completely sustainable wool because yaks are raised in nature in the highlands around the himalayan region, and don’t require intense grazing. Yak wool is a renewable resource that doesn’t harm the yaks when collected. The wool simply comes off by itself in large piles a few times a year. The wool can also be processed without using harsh chemicals.

All other woven cotton products listed on this page are made by novel weavers currently undergoing or recently having completed their training. Weaving is a skill that requires a lot of experience. We give new weavers and sesamtresses this experience by introducing them to our designs and patterns on other products than baby wraps. Some pieces might have minor irregularities or inconsistencies but this is just the beauty of handmade product by people in training to excellence.

Some items on this page might also be made from wrap scraps. We attempt to use every single piece of fabric to fulfill our Zero Waste commitment to the world and to avoid waste of valuable resources.

Together we can make a more sustainable textile industry!
