Midnight Meadow – Yak wool/cotton
From: €312.50
Description
Midnight Meadow is our fourth design with yak wool and the colors are inspired by the stunning burned shades of the high altitude meadows in the Himalaya mountains.
The warp is made of our renown cotton designed in a beautiful warm graduating medley in golden yellow and olive shades slowly melting into deep warm red, bordeaux and deep purple-brown shades. The weft is a warm deep natural coffee colored yak wool from the Himalays mountains in Northern India. The cotton combined with the yak wool gives the wrap an amazing softness and a beautiful flow of colors. The pattern is an ever changing crackle weaving with larger areas of plain weave combined with longer flotations giving the wrap a perfect mix of sturdiness and stretch. The wrap has a bit more grip than glide, very light and perfect for new born babies and strong enough to be used into toodlerhood.
Yak wool is an exclusive wool which has been used by nomads in the Trans-Himalayan region for over a thousand years. Yak wool is considered a completely sustainable wool because yaks are raised in nature in the highlands around the himalayan region, and does not require intense grazing. The wool is collected in a non-invasive manner as it simply comes off by itself in large piles and the wool can be processed without using harsh chemicals.
While cashmere is known as the softest wool the softness of the yak down fiber is very comparable due to the similar micron length.
Yak is very breathable and it regulates the body temperature the same way as sheep’s wool. As the body temperature rises the wool has the ability to transfer heat and moisture along every fiber and release it into the cooler, drier environment, and when the temperature drops it keeps the heat in. This means that the wrap can be used both summer and winter. Furthermore, unlike most wool, the yak’s coat does not contain lanolin and is therefore relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.
