Description

Himalaya – the home of the majestic animal Yak from which the weft of this wrap is made.

Himalaya is our first design with yak wool and the colors are naturally inspired by the stunning shades of the Himalaya mountains.
The wrap is made of our renown cotton and in a beautiful graduating medley in light ocean blue, earthy brown and sand inspired colors melting into a shades of dark ocean blue. The weft is a middle brown handspun yak wool. The cotton combined with the yak wool gives the wrap an amazing softness and a beautiful flow of colors. The pattern is a crackle weaving with larger areas of plain weave combined with longer flotations giving the wrap a perfect mix of sturdiness and stretch. The wrap has a bit more grip than glide, and is perfect for new born babies and strong enough to be used into toodlerhood and beyond.

Yak wool is an exclusive wool which has been used by nomads in the Trans-Himalayan region for over a thousand years. Yak wool is considered a completely sustainable wool because yaks are raised in nature in the highlands around the himalayan region, and does not require intense grazing. The wool is collected in a non-invasive manner as it simply comes off by itself in large piles and the wool can be processed without using harsh chemicals.

While cashmere is known as the softest wool the softness of the yak down fiber is very comparable due to the similar micron length.
Yak is very breathable and it regulates the body temperature the same way as sheep’s wool. As the body temperature rises the wool has the ability to transfer heat and moisture along every fiber and release it into the cooler, drier environment, and when the temperature drops it keeps the heat in. This means that the wrap can be used both summer and winter. Furthermore, unlike most wool, the yak’s coat does not contain lanolin and is therefore relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.

Please note that yak wool sometimes is spun a bit uneven and can have loops/knots. This is completely natural and creates a beautiful handmade artisan appearance.
