Giving back….
At Weaverbirds we believe that giving back to the communities we work in is a natural part of running a business. For us, a business is more than making profit – we value building lasting knowledge, skills, and relationships that support and sustain communities. We are proud of the work we do and will continue to play our part in strengthening sustainable economic development in Uganda.
Every year we design a Charity Baby wrap together with a well known baby wearing instructor. All proceedings from that sale of this wrap are directly donated to a selected charity operating in Uganda. In 2017 Maternity Worldwide received the proceedings from the wrap ‘Mary in the Meadow’ for their project focused on enhancing access to quality maternal healthcare in Uganda. ‘Mary in the Meadow’ was designed in collaboration with Lotte Hald, Slyngejordemoder.
Because of Weaverbirds’ strong ties to mothers, children, and their wellbeing, a share of the 2017 profit will be donated to the Peter C. Alderman Foundation’s Maternal Mental Health project based in Soroti, Uganda. This project focuses on identifying and providing support for women with maternal depression, a common problem that can have devastating impacts on mother and child, especially in communities previously affected by armed conflict. Pregnant women are identified through simple screening methods during routine antenatal care, and support is provided by trained and supervised community health workers, so that care is available close to home and free from stigma.
For future years we will continue to explore meaningful opportunities for giving back.
